Event description

Strong Mwera winds are expected blow on Lake Malawi and other lake water bodies from Sunday morning 27TH July 2025. The Mwera winds are likely to reach up to a speed of 65 km/h, potentially resulting in formation of high water waves of about 2 meters in height. These waves may capsize small boats, disrupt lake activities such as fishing, sailing, and swimming, and could lead to drowning and loss of life. The Mwera winds are expected to subside by Thursday 31ST July 2025.

Instructions

1. Avoid traveling on our lakes, especially in small boats, during this period. 2. Fishers are advised to postpone fishing trips until conditions improve. 3. Swimming and recreational activities on lakes should be suspended. 4. Secure boats and equipment near the shoreline to prevent damage. 5.
