The storm is anticipated to strengthen while moving eastward towards Madagascar Coast.
Current weather models consistently predict an eastward trajectory towards Madagascar coast, with potential intensification into a moderate Tropical Storm by Monday morning, 1st January 2024. The storm is forecasted to make landfall over south-west coast of Madagascar on Monday night or early hours of Tuesday 2nd January 2024. Meanwhile, DCCMS will continue monitoring the movement and strength of the Storm. Any potential impacts on Malawi weather will be promptly communicated to the nation.</cap:description><cap:instruction>People are advised to keep following weather updates from DCCMS.
At its current location and strength, the Tropical Storm is not named and has no direct impact on Malawi weather. Nevertheless, the combine effect of Inter-Tropical Convergence Zone and Congo Air Mass over Malawi will sustain heavy rains and thunderstorms in most areas. The public is strongly advised to avoid crossing flooded and fast flowing waters.</cap:instruction><cap:web>https://www.metmalawi.gov.mw/weather-warnings/tropical-storm/</cap:web><cap:contact>nationalmetcentre@gmail.com</cap:contact><cap:area><cap:areaDesc>Mozambique Channel</cap:areaDesc><cap:polygon>-17.1828,34.3433 -14.3921,34.3433 -14.3921,35.9473 -17.1828,35.9473 -17.1828,34.3433</cap:polygon></cap:area></cap:info></cap:alert>
